A life changing event.

I'm typing this with great difficulty due to the fact that I just got my nails "did" for the first time. (A little late? perhaps.)

Anyways...

Almost two years ago my best friend Brittany and I were driving down highway 24, heading to Anderson from Townville. We planned to return some movies, grab a bite to eat, and head home. Sadly, it didn't turn out that way. We were only a minute or so from our house when we were hit head on by a truck. Not some tiny pickup truck, but a bulky Ford F-150. We were in a Toyota Camry.

A few seconds later we open our doors, the guy is out of his truck talking about how he's so sorry, his tire blew out. All frantic like. That's when I realize he had not only hit us, he hit a Blazer in front of us, totaling it as well. I wanted to get out of the car, I didn't realize I was hurt, my friend, however caught a glimpse of her leg bone sticking out and she went into panic mode. (Who wouldn't though?) We waited for the ambulance to get there,  I didn't feel anything just sorta numb and lightheaded.

The ambulances got there and that's when Brittany and I had to go our separate ways. Once inside the ambulance I was interrogated about the drugs I was on because my pupils were large. I'm not quite sure why the guy couldn't understand the fact that a truck pretty much just landed in my lap, and I was a bit freaked out. After telling him at least 5 times I didn't do drugs with him giving me the, "You need to tell us, you won't get in trouble." reply I had enough. I pretty much told him the, "I just got hit by a truck." thing, with lots of fancy words added in. Which I don't regret at all, he deserved it.

I got to stay in the hospital for like 12 hours and was luckily able to go home with them telling me, "We don't think you're gonna bleed internally, because if you were it would've started by now."  Oh gee thanks, you know one thing they forgot to mention? Along with my broken collarbone I had 3 broken ribs. No wonder it hurt so badly to stand up!

A week or so later I went to the bone doctor, who told me I had to have a plate put in, because my bone was dumb and not gonna grow back the right way. (It was growing up. Good job bone. UGH.)

After all of that I had to endure 8 weeks of PT. (Which should stand for physical torture.) It was by far the worst part of the entire ordeal.

OH. We later found out the guy's tire didn't blow out, he was on the phone texting and not paying attention. Lovely.  (He now can't afford insurance, though, so. EH.)

Some good things came of this wreck, I look back and think about some of the things that happened and laugh at them now. (At the time they weren't so funny.) Me falling asleep with drinks in my hand because of the pain meds. Me finding out that Vicodin doesn't work for me, it just makes me itch... really badly. I got a pretty sweet car out of the deal, too. (which I'm sure I'll blog about later.)

The BEST thing I learned, however, is that your inattentiveness while driving can change the lives of others in less than a second. I would never want anyone to go through what my friend and I did, it isn't worth it. Everyday for the rest of my life when I look in the mirror the first thing I'll see is a huge scar across my collarbone. As much fun as it is to joke and tell people that I got stabbed with a machete its not funny. I dont like it. It sucks. When the weather turns cold it aches and makes me feel so much older than 22. But hey, it made me realize that I should really pay attention while driving.
