I wanna start this blog by saying that I'm all for people raising money to help others. That is all fine and dandy, but why can't they do it where its not inconveniencing people? Its currently 1:34am, meaning this blog is late which really irks my nerves because I planned to do this when I got back from my friend's apartment, I just didn't realize I was going to be trying to get back to my car for nearly 2 hours, thanks to the Midnight Flight.
Tonight was supposed to be nice, go to my friend's, get some dinner, come home. Didn't happen. Well, actually all of those things happened, but there was a lot of waiting inserted in there that I simply wasn't prepared for.
The night started out sketchy with us having to wait at least 30min before we could detour and drive across the street. It was all good, though. I mean, you can't let a little wait get you down, so we went about our business. Getting back to the apartments, however, was a completely different story. At this point no one was able to drive down 81.
Which raised a few questions... What if someone had to go to work? "Sorry boss, I would've been on time, but there were people walking down the highway. Cops wouldn't let me through." I don't think that would be an acceptable excuse for one's boss.
What if an ambulance needed to get through? Would all the people have scattered? I mean... Does anyone think about these things? (Which also brings us to the, "OH NO MY WIFE'S WATER JUST BROKE. Good thing we live on 81, the hospital is just down the street. OH WAIT. Its still gonna take us an hour to get there." )
I mean sure it only happens once a year, its for a good cause, but what about the people that don't have back roads to use to get elsewhere? (Like my friend and me.)
I'm sure there are other locations this event could be held at in Anderson. The Civic Center for one? Isn't that what its for? Stuff like this?
The icing on the cake was the fact that when I called and asked about what time it was over... no one could give me anything besides, "No one in here knows. Sorry." Soo... all these cops were at the event, but not a single one knew what time it ended? I'm not asking for exact, I'm talking about, "An hour, two hours, three hours." ANYTHING.
I love Anderson soooooo much.
My grandmother HATES the Midnight Flight. She works at the hospital and every year, it delays her in being able to drive home from work. I can definitely see how it is inconvenient.
